2016 / 2017
The newest boards to hit the slopes from the Smokin factory not only continued the winning streak that’s been building since 2009, but they also continue the tradition of handmade in the USA quality and innovative technology that progresses snowboarding in the right direction.
THE 16/17 AWESYM
After it’s double header victory in it’s inaugural year with a Good Wood and Platinum Pick award, the all-new Awesymmetrical board took home the title of the best 2017 All-Mountain Snowboard from the sharp minds and talented athletes of Transworld’s Good Wood Test. With a shorter and more aggressive heelside edge, the Awesym balances out our own natural human biomechanical shortcomings.
THE 16/17 HOOLIGAN
Third Good Wood in a row! The Hooligan has proven time and again that is a leader amongst the park board category, especially with the addition of Best Jib Board honors in Sage Kotsenburg’s Blackboard Experiment. The Hooligan has become a household name in quality board performance at a budget minded price point. The softest flex pattern of any men’s board in the Smokin’ line, the Hooligan, with it’s Dirt Rocker profile is a slippery park slider built for catch free, buttery, freestyle runs. and effortless powder laps.
THE 16/17 VIXEN LTD
Rounding out the hat trick is the absolute most popular board series in Smokin’ history, the Vixen. It remains unchanged in design and build materials from the previous season, because when you have a perfect product, you don’t mess with it. Originally built on the Superpark platform but re-engineered to suit the needs of female riders the Vixen is the premier twin tip platform for women’s free riding.
2015 / 2016
2015 came as no surprise as we watched two of our longest standing models and award winners take home top honors in Transworld’s Good Wood awards for park boards.
THE 15/16 HOOLIGAN
The 15/16 season was year of the park boards for us at Smokin! As if it needed more of an ego boost, the tried and true Hooligan took home another Good Wood for Men’s Park, adding to an already stellar career since its initial release.
THE 15/16 PYT
Not to be forgotten in the Park category are the women who ride Smokin. The PYT has been a long standing female-friendly park killer, and continues to prove its worth with another Good Wood award to call its own.
2014 / 2015
In 2014 we were already living in the future, and budget minded, US made boards were a hot item. The testing crew at Transworld Snowboarding had a huge volume of next level, futuristic Smokin’ sticks to ride, but only time would tell if you could take home another award.
THE 14/15 HOOLIGAN
Out of the mass of boards we sent, the Hooligan stood out and took the win for the Smokin’ snowboards team. Dirt Rockered with a Park Flex and Mellow Mag, the Hooligan has the most bang for your buck. Loaded with the same materials and core features as our most tech driven decks at a price point that leaves room in your wallet for all that cash you are able to put back in it. The same, industry leading 3 year warranty ensures an ever-lasting friendship with this amazing stick.
2013 / 2014
2013. Here we are. The most exciting year to date. With the addition of our new Awesymmetrical model (a true twin board with asymetrical sidecuts) comes a whole new test of our innovation and technology. Fingers were crossed that the board testers would enjoy it as much as we, and all the retailers and riders lucky enough to demo that new-new, did.
THE 13/14 AWESYM
The response from the national demos, team, and industry insiders were a unanimous thumbs up, the technology had proven itself to us. Then the day came. A leak! Insiders at TWS and Snowboard Mag both sent over confirmation, we had won! TWS Good Wood and a Platinum Pick, both for one board in it’s first year of production confirmed our efforts to push our boundaries and ideas to the world.
THE 13/14 VIXEN
Add a THIRD win for the Vixen to the mix and we are literally swimming in stoke! Looking to the future, we were excited to drop even more innovation in the coming year. Combinations of award-winning tech and ideas were sure to come together in the coming winter design season to create new and exciting models never before seen in the industry!
2012 / 2013
2012 proved to be Smokin’s most successful year so far. Following the move to our new 5,000 sq. foot facility right at the base of the Sierra Nevadas, we were able to improve our production consistency in large volumes. We also introduced VDFLU, a revolutionary layup process which allowed for 1.5 times more board strength without a hinderance in flew or weight.
2011 / 2012
2011 is the year of the ladies. Smokin diversified our line to 4 different camber/rocker offerings to suit the needs of every type of rider, including a women’s park specific shape, the PYT. With word spreading globally about our handmade creations, Transworld invites us back to the test with open arms.
THE 11/12 VIXEN
Honored by the invitation, our Clash Rockered Vixen impresses the high performance women’s testers as a go anywhere, do anything, all-mountain ripper, helping it take top 5 among premium boards of this category.
THE 11/12 PYT
The blunt nosed baby sister of the MIP, the PYT is introduced in 2011 as an ANTI rockered, true twin, fun sled. Aggressive freestyle shaping with blunted tips and flat camber is a first among women’s designs and Snowboard Mag takes notice, awarding the PYT with a Platinum Pick, one of only 2 women’s boards to be selected that year.
2010 / 2011
In 2010, the Rocker craze is on fire. While imitators scramble to release some backwards tech in ’09, Smokin refines DIRT rocker technology using our proximity to Lake Tahoe to test and develop performance rockered shapes. Through rigorous testing we were able to quickly evolve our design beyond some theories that our competitors still use as an integral element of their design today.
THE 10/11 MIP
For it’s Rocker superiority, the MIP is awarded a Platinum Pick by Snowboard Magazine citing excellence in design, continuing Smokin’s soon-to-be long streak of award-winning boards.
2009 / 2010
Fast forward three years. Smokin Snowboards has grown exponentially and has not been asked to participate in another board test since the win in 2005. With exciting new Magne-Traction technology licensed from Mervin Manufacturing on each board and a wild new graphic direction, people take notice.
2005 / 2006
After 10 years of hard work and refinement in our original factory location just steps from the shores of Lake Tahoe, Smokin Jay unleashes the Superpark model on the unsuspecting testers of the 2005 TWS Board Test.
THE 05/06 SUPERPARK
In it’s final year of prototyping, the Superpark enters the Top 10! Well respected testers like East Coast legend Eric Kovall site it as a welcomed alternative to the soft freestyle board trends of the time. The Superpark develops a reputation as a high performance freestyle shape designed to take on absolutely anything. The orders flood in from all over the world and a new standard for independent manufacturing is born.
